SUMMER BIBLE STUDY
All are welcome!!
Come to a group study on lessons from Esther, Tuesday, June 25 at 9:30am. Session 1: Esther the Queen–Voices in the King's Court--sets the scene for the story of Esther and her adopted father, Mortecai. Esther and Mortecai are Jews living under the rule of the Persian king, Kin Ahasuerus. When Esther becomes the queen, her faith is tested. The Jews, those who have been carried off from their homeland, struggle with living as strangers in foreign land. In this session we will think about how our culture may challenge our faith. All are welcome!! Copies of the study are at the Welcome Center.

Through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
In July 2017, Joel & Rachel Watters visited Bethany to share about their call to ministry in Costa Rica through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Shortly after the Watters’ and their three children moved to southern Costa Rica, Central America, to evangelize and disciple students on several college campuses. Periodically we receive updates from them and most recently learned that their family has grown with the birth of a new baby girl, Elsie Eve. Look for their correspondence on the bulletin board by the church office! If you would like to support their mission visit: https://donate.intervarsity.org/donate/to/RachelJoelWatters

Thank you!
BETHANY HAS AN AED
Keep alert for more on this...
You may have noticed the AED in the hallway by the church offices. This device was received through a grant opportunity made possible by Clay County Emergency Medical Services. So– just what is an AED? An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. Recently some of our council members received training on how to use an AED and in the coming weeks there will be opportunities for others to learn. Watch for more details coming in the newsletter and bulletins.
Sign up for a Sunday in 2019
Many thanks to everyone who provided flowers to beautify the altar in 2018. The flower chart for 2019 is posted on the bulletin board in the narthex. If you are interested in providing altar flowers for a service in this new year, please fill out a yellow card and leave it at the church office or in the offering plate.
JOIN THE MOB - IT'S GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
Saturday Mornings -- All Are Welcome!
One of the greatest challenges to men's spiritual, mental and physical health is the lack of close friends. Research tells us that men without a circle of close friends are far more likely to suffer from such things as anxiety and heart disease. Healthy men are connected to Christ and each other. Men Of Bethany (MOB) meet every Saturday morning at 7:30am for breakfast and a Bible study. This group welcomes everyone! Come as you are – enjoy the fellowship – you’ll leave feeling better. J

ARCHIVE ROOM & COMMITTEE
Share your time & talents!!
The Archive Committee needs your help. A room in the lower level of the church is being renovated to contain our important papers, blueprints, photos, memorabilia, etc. Good recordkeeping is important for homes, businesses, taxes, and the milestones in our lives. An archive holds and preserves documents that provide evidence of the past are produced in a variety of formats from paper to electronic. These materials require protection and preservation to prevent the loss of your congregation's history that would occur if the material was neglected. Are you interested in joining the archive committee? Give us a call (262-2327) and let us know!
ROOM AT THE TABLE
You Can Help Support this Mission
Please consider making a donation to support this mission of Bethany that provides morning milk at Johnson School for students who are unable to have it as part of their snack. The program also helps with meals for families in crisis and holiday meals at the public schools for struggling families. This ensures a festive and nutritious meal at Thanksgiving & Christmas time, so no child is embarrassed by having to sit at a separate table with only a sandwich if their parents are behind on payments. Let’s help make “room at the table” for everyone!
CALLING ALL "TECHIES"
Join the Sound Booth Crew!
Please consider joining the tech team. Projector operators, camera/video recorders and sound people are needed for our worship services. These are step-by-step processes that you can learn and we are willing to train. If you would like to be a part of the “tech team” please sign up at the Welcome Center. You will be contacted with information about some upcoming training sessions. Thanks!
Let your voice be heard!

Our faith calls us to learn more and speak out on issues affecting our vulnerable neighbors and the forces threatening creation. For an abundance of resources to educate and equip you to be a more effective advocate visit this website: https://www.elca.org/Resources/Advocacy
